The law against gambling, which was put into effect in 2009, is currently brought up to the surface and revised by the high-profile politicians of Ukraine in a discussion with gambling industry specialists. Government representatives, including Economic Development Minister Aivaras Abromavicius and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk agree on the importance of turning the gambling industry into an opportunity for Ukrainian economy. Glyn Thomas, an organizer of the major event called “Game on: Bringing Gambling back to Ukraine”, taking place in the capital of Ukraine on the 13th-14th of October, is convinced that bringing gambling industry out of shadow will make Ukraine more attractive to tourists from across the globe.
At the present moment, illegal gambling continues to happen in Ukraine, but creating a gambling industry that is completely controlled and pays all the appropriate taxes will open a pathway for investments into the growing economy. But, Glyn Thomas emphasizes on the important necessity to establish a gambling commission to eliminate corruption and regulate the system, so that both Ukrainian gambling industry and the state can benefit from it.
