Snapchat buys Odesa startup Looksery

The founders of incredibly popular Snapchat app have bought an Odesa startup Looksery for reported $ 150 million. If this sum gets confirmed, it makes this acquisition into the biggest one in the tech industry of Ukraine. Ukrainian application has become widely known in the world thanks to an extremely successful Kickstarter campaign bringing $ 50 000 to a startup and articles on famous resources, such as TechCrunch, Forbes and others.

Looksery is an app, which allows a person to modify his or her face in a real-time mode. Using the Looksery app you can make all kinds of fun adjustments to your face – make it look slimmer, fuller, remove any skin defects, such as wrinkles, change the color of your eyes and even shape of your head. You can make yourself look like a funny cartoon character or someone straight out of the horror movie. The app was founded in 2013 by Odesa entrepreneur Viktor Sharubov. Since its launch in October 2014, Looksery has been downloaded for free on various mobile platforms about 10 million times. At the moment Looksery is no longer available in app stores of Google and Apple, while Snapchat came up with a new Lenses feature, which can make various changes to the users’ faces.
